Positive Paws Dog Training offers support and advice that is tailored to you and your dog's needs.

Hi, I am Julia and I run Positive Paws Dog Training.

I have been dog training for around 15 years and it all started with a rescue dog that wasn’t how I thought he would be!

Before I adopted Marley I thought we would have this amazing relationship. We would go for long walks in the countryside and meet up with friends and their dogs.

But it became quickly apparent that Marley was highly anxious around and reactive towards other dogs (and people) and our walks quite quickly turned into something very very stressful!

I saw various dog trainers and behaviourists, spent an absolute fortune and travelled the country to find someone that could help us.

Hands up, I made a lot of mistakes and I am forever grateful that Marley was so forgiving with me and loved me in spite of them.

The professionals I saw told me I needed to be the pack leader, that I needed to be “in charge”. They suggested quick fix solutions and general advice but none of it worked.A lot of it didn’t sit well with me but I didn’t know any better so continued to muddle through.

Marley taught me more about dogs than any book ever could and to this day I still enjoy quiet walks at 5am.

I feel dog training goes so much further than teaching our dogs cues to follow. It’s about forming a strong relationship that is based on trust and communication. Our dogs are part of our family and I think they deserve to be treated with understanding and respect.

However, they often need a bit of guidance in understanding our world, just like we often need some guidance in understanding their behaviours and this is something I can help you with.
